Wait ... waxed?

Yep, teen and tweendom comes with more and more of the trappings of womanhood these days, and salon owners say they now see girls as young as 8 coming in to get unwanted body hair removed.

The youngest waxers tend to want to get rid of the dark fuzz on their upper lips or shape up unibrows, and are often the children of clients, Diane Fisher, owner of Eclips Kids Salon in Ashburn, Va., tells ParentDish.

"Where we live, there's a lot of Middle Easterners," she says. "Lots of the girls have dark hair for their age. They're self-conscious."

Wanda Stawczyk, owner of Wanda's European Skin Care Center in New York, says girls who start waxing young, even before they have dark hair, will always have lighter, thinner hair.

"It's a very big result," she tells ParentDish. "The hair is diminished almost 100 percent."

She advocates for it even more strongly on her website.

"I call it the 'Virgin' -- waxing for children 8 years old and up who have never shaved before," the website reads. "Virgin hair can be waxed so successfully that growth can be permanently stopped in just 2 to 6 sessions. Save your child a lifetime of waxing ... and put the money in the bank for her college education instead!"

Stawczyk says the number of young girls she sees has increased by about 50 percent in the past year.

Many of her littlest clients start coming to her when they are 8 or 9 years old and get a range of services from lip waxes to lower leg waxes, Stawczyk says.

"Everything but bikini," she tells ParentDish. "We don't want to introduce them to that kind of service yet."

Regular bikini waxing starts at 14 or 15 for her clients, Stawczyk says.

And the ouch factor?

"The children, they don't feel the pain," Stawczyk insists. "They have weaker hair. All of them, when they come the first time, they're afraid, but it doesn't hurt them. I would say it hurts less than a Band-Aid."

Helps With Their Self Esteem

But is all this OK, or is it harmful for girls to get waxed at such a tender age? For the most part, there isn't a problem, says Rebekah Williams, assistant professor of clinical pediatrics and adolescent medicine at Indiana University.

"For some young women, it actually helps with their self esteem," she says of girls who are embarrassed about visible dark growth.

But Williams does issue one caveat.

"It's fine to wax any body hair," she tells ParentDish. "It's the pubic hair that's most concerning to me."

Waxing pubic hair if a girl is too young can make it difficult for doctors to tell if a girl is maturing as she should, Williams says.

"We use development of a certain type of hair and distribution of hair as a marker of normal puberty," she says.

Doctors look primarily at breast and hair development to determine if puberty is progressing at a healthy rate. Facial hair and underarm hair are a part of that, but pubic hair is a key indicator -- and not only the presence of it, but its location, as well. One indication of the final stage of puberty is the pubic hair hitting the leg, Williams says. If that hair is waxed too soon, doctors lose an important marker.

After puberty, though -- which can come very early for some girls -- Williams has no issues with waxing of any sort.

"After puberty is complete and we know that it's progressed normally, there's nothing concerning about bikini waxing," she tells ParentDish.

Others, however, think the message waxing sends girls is an unhealthy one.
Roxy's Skin Carehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11630208139488186592noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594694451148416992.post-54950873832973217502010-08-22T07:32:00.004-05:002010-08-22T07:40:55.216-05:00How to Give Yourself a Black Lace Manicure
America's Most Stylish Blogger Trang Huyen shows off her lace nails. "Strips can look fake when all the lashes are the same length and thickness," says Sotomayor.Whether you're applying lashes to the top or bottom lash line, Sotomayor recommends you squeeze a drop of lash glue on to the back of the box and use a toothpick or brush handle tip to evenly spread the glue along the band. Give it a moment to get tacky, and repeat for extra adhesion. Then work from the outter corner inwards, either pushing down a strip at the band or applying individual sprigs."For the most natural and blended look, first apply eyeliner, curl your own lashes and apply mascara. Apply false lashes, curl and add another coat of mascara. A coat of liquid or gel liner hides the band and dresses up your look," advises Sotomayor. And when it comes time to remove, resist the urge to just peel the lashes off -- or else risk taking some of your own off with them. Instead, hold a cotton ball soaked with eye makeup remover over a closed eye for a moment, and then gently peel off the lashes after the glue has dissipated.

If you handle lashes carefully and allow them to dry out after each use, you can often sneak up to three to five uses out of a single pair.Because while we may be able to get Christina Aguilera's lashes, we sure don't get her paycheck. Roxy's Skin Carehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11630208139488186592noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594694451148416992.post-73635757620461769972010-08-22T07:02:00.005-05:002010-08-22T07:42:18.193-05:00How to Wear Neon Nail Polish<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508203810940605410" style="FLOAT: left; To try it, get some fresh horseradish root -- not the type in the jar. You can find it at Whole Foods or other specialty stores. Grate up ¼ teaspoon of it. Place it on your tongue and hold it in your mouth until the flavor fades. (Beware: It's hotter than the jarred kind.) You should start to feel mucus draining down the back of your throat and the pressure alleviating. Spit the mucus out along with the horseradish.

Fenugreek Tea

Fenugreek is another herb that, like horseradish, acts as an expectorant. The points to focus on are on the underside of the four smaller toes, near the outermost joint, toward the lateral side of the toe. Work the area for about two minutes. Proceed gently though -- if you have inflamed sinuses, this area will be tender.

Contrast Therapy

Holistic physician Jade Teta recommends a very simple contrast therapy. Hold a washcloth dipped in hot water to the sinuses for three minutes, then a cloth dipped in cold water for 1 minute. Alternate between the two several times. Because hot opens blood vessels and cold shrinks them, the contrast creates a pumping action that brings blood to the area, helping to relieve congestion and speed healing.

Humming

And if all else fails, says Teta, try humming. The reason soy can help reduce symptoms, such as hot flashes, is because of the high level of phytoestrogens, or plant-based estrogens. But soy supplements have become controversial. Some experts believe it can increase your breast cancer risk. "Soy is complicated," says Dr. Marcie Richardson, Director of the Harvard Vanguard Menopause Consultation Service and a member of the North American Menopause Society. Perimenopause might be the time to use soy, because the phtyoestrogens can have a modulating effect. But this hasn't really been proven, she says.
Exercise

"Exercise is absolutely critical," says Susan Moores MSRD, registered dietitian and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. Exercise can be a powerful sleep aid, combating the sleep disturbances many women complain about. It has been shown to improve the whole gamut of menopause symptoms from hot flashes to mood swings. She says not to just focus on aerobic exercise, but also try strength training and relaxation techniques, such as yoga.
Flaxseed

"Flaxseed falls in the same camp as soy for the phytoestrogens," says Moores. One study by the Mayo Clinic found the incidence of hot flashes was reduced as much as 50 percent by consuming flaxseed. It is also thought to be very promising because, along with phytoestrogens, it also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which can aid in mood stabilization. According to A.D.A.M., an online health content provider, when compared to hormone replacement therapy, 40 grams of flaxseed was reported to be equally as effective in reducing hot flashes, vaginal dryness and mood disturbances.
Black Cohosh

Two German studies have shown black cohosh to be effective in reducing hot flashes, according to A.D.A.M. One study in particular showed 80 percent of women saw a decrease in hot flashes while using black cohosh. However, no long-term studies have been done and there have been reports of side-effects including upset stomach and low blood pressure, caution the experts at Harvard Medical School.

Natural Progesterone

This over-the-counter cure uses progesterone or progesterone-like compounds as the active ingredient. "Natural progesterone is a hormone and it works," says Dr. Richardson. "Skin creams that contain extracts of Mexican wild yams have been widely promoted for natural menopause relief for years," says Harvard Medical School. However, because of variation among products and the individual nature of skin's responsiveness, this method is not recommended by the North American Menopause Society, says Harvard. There's no safety data on this hormone, Dr. Richardson cautions. Learn more about the risks and benefits here.

Red Clover

Red clover is often used to reduce vaginal dryness and decrease hot flashes. The effectiveness of red clover is thought to be due to a plant-chemical, isoflavones, which has an estrogen-like effect in the body. However, according to Harvard Medical School, research results have been disappointing. Two studies published in the journal 'Menopause' found that women fared no better with red clover than a placebo for both hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Learn more about red clover here.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Fish isn't just delicious; it contains a valuable ingredient that may help stabilize your mood swings too -- omega-3 fatty acids. There have been some good studies to attest that omega-3 can help improve mood, says Dr. Richardson. There's also growing research that omega-3 fatty acids help fight heart disease. The best way to add this key ingredient to your diet is by eating fatty fish like salmon, tuna and trout.

Acupuncture

You wouldn't necessarily think that sticking needles in your body would be a helpful way to cure menopause symptoms, but when combined with other treatments, it can be helpful. Some controlled studies have shown some effectiveness in some woman for hot flashes, says Dr. Richardson. According to A.D.A.M., "both the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health recognize that acupuncture can be a helpful part of a treatment plan" for many illnesses, including menopausal symptoms.

Vitamin E

There has been a study, which showed a slight effect in decreasing hot flashes for women using vitamin E, says Dr. Richardson. Along with reducing hot flashes vitamin E may carry with it extra benefits, such as fending off macular degeneration, lowering blood pressure, and slowing the aging of cells and tissues according to A.D.A.M.

Cutting down on alcohol.

Who hasn't felt the negative effects of drinking too much alcohol, such as trouble sleeping or feeling flushed? This goes double for women during menopause. The thing about alcohol is: women metabolize it worse than men and we metabolize it worse as we age, says Dr. Richardson. According to Harvard Medical School, alcohol can act as a trigger for hot flashes. And for good reason: more than a million Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer this year, which by the way is the most common type of cancer.

Andy's sunscreen habits mean he's protecting his skin from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays from the outside in. But, as a registered dietitian, I know that he can also protect his skin from the inside out. In fact, a study published in March (2010) in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology supports just that-certain vitamins do help to protect our skin. So I dug through the scientific literature to come up with a list of foods that Andy and I could eat to help us protect our skin.

What I discovered is that many of the same foods that can boost his defenses against skin cancer will also help keep my skin looking younger and smoother and ward off wrinkles. And vice versa.

Strawberries
Eating more vitamin C-rich foods may help to ward off wrinkles and age-related dryness, suggests research from 2007 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Vitamin C's skin-smoothing effects may be due to its ability to mop up free radicals produced from ultraviolet rays and also its role in collagen synthesis. Collagen is fibrous protein that keeps skin firm and vitamin C is essential for collagen production. Other research suggests that vitamin C may also protect skin cells by promoting the repair of DNA that's been damaged by UV rays. You can find vitamin C in a multitude of cosmetics (of which some have been shown to be effective in protecting skin), but why not go straight to the source for a tasty boost of vitamin C: strawberries, red bell peppers, papaya, broccoli and oranges are all excellent sources.

Coffee
Andy and I are both coffee lovers, so it's good to know that drinking coffee may lower our risk of developing skin cancer. In one study of more than 93,000 women, published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, those who drank even a single daily cup of caffeinated coffee reduced their risk of developing nonmelanoma skin cancer by about 10 percent. And the more they drank-up to about 6 cups or so per day-the lower their risk. Decaf didn't seem to offer the same protection. These findings add to a body of research that suggests caffeine, in both coffee and tea, is the protective ingredient. In another study-where mice were exposed to harmful sunburn-causing ultraviolet B rays (see box, below)-caffeine inhibited the formation of skin tumors. Caffeine basically kills precancerous and ultraviolet-damaged skin cells by blocking a protein that they need to divide, explains Paul Nghiem, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of dermatology at the University of Washington Medical School. The effects of caffeine on skin are modest, so it's not a reason to start drinking coffee-it's just "one more reason to enjoy it if you already do," says Nghiem.

Tomatoes
Consuming more lycopene-the carotenoid that makes tomatoes red, carrots orange and gives pink grapefruit and watermelon a pink-red hue-may keep your skin smooth and protect it from sunburn. In a study published in 2008 in the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, researchers found that of the 20 individuals studied, those who had higher skin concentrations of lycopene had smoother skin. And in another study, participants who were exposed to UV light had almost 50 percent less skin reddening after they ate 2 1/2 tablespoons of tomato paste or drank about 1 2/3 cups of carrot juice daily, in addition to their regular diet, for 10 to 12 weeks. Supplements, however, weren't as effective: in the same study, those who received a lycopene supplement or synthetic lycopene weren't significantly protected against sunburn. And lycopene isn't the only carotenoid that shields your skin from UV damage; others, including lutein, found in corn, kale, spinach, summer squash and egg yolks, and beta carotene, found in pumpkin, sweet potato, spinach and carrots, appear to also have a protective effect.

Edamame
Soyfoods, including edamame, tofu and soymilk, may help to preserve skin-firming collagen-which begins to decline starting in our twenties-because they're rich in isoflavones. In a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, mice fed isoflavones and exposed to UV radiation had fewer wrinkles and smoother skin than mice that were exposed to UV light but didn't get isoflavones. The researchers believe that isoflavones help prevent collagen breakdown. Like lycopene and vitamin C, isoflavones also act like antioxidants, scavenging for and mopping up free radicals caused by sun exposure.

Salmon
The omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA (docosahexaenoic and eicosapentaenoic acids, respectively) found in fatty fish (tuna, sardines, trout and salmon) may shield cell walls from free-radical damage caused by UV rays, according to a 2009 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Omega-3s also help to prevent skin cancer by reducing inflammatory compounds that can promote tumor growth, says Homer S. Black, Ph.D., professor emeritus in the Department of Dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Those same fish may help keep your skin looking youthful, too, as EPA has been shown to preserve collagen. Aim to eat two servings of fatty fish each week: not only are the omega-3s good for your skin, they're good for your heart too.

Still, nothing beats sunscreen-and, admittedly, I'm a sucker for a great skin-saving lotion, cream or serum-but Andy and I will also be adding more of these foods to our diet.

Overexposed?
Spending hours exposed to the rays that give you a bronzy tan will increase your risk of developing skin cancer and accelerate your skin's aging process. Here's how: ultraviolet (UV) rays break the chemical bonds of skin cells, killing them and damaging their DNA, which may eventually cause cancerous growth. Both forms of UV light can lead to cancer. UVB is the type that helps your body synthesize vitamin D-but too much of it causes sunburn, and although it's the form of UV that we're most familiar with, it only makes up a small fraction of what we're exposed to. The vast majority of UV light we receive is actually UVA light. UVA penetrates deeper into the skin than UVB, creating damage before there's any visible sunburn. It's also a major contributor to premature skin aging.

Read more: http://www.kitchendaily.com/2010/08/04/5-foods-for-beautiful-skin/?icid=mainhtmlws-main-wdl9link5http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kitchendaily.com%2F2010%2F08%2F04%2F5-foods-for-beautiful-skin%2F#ixzz0w1JihzQ2Roxy's Skin Carehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11630208139488186592noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594694451148416992.post-64905674247629692472010-04-27T00:20:00.009-05:002010-04-27T00:36:55.703-05:00"Water Therapy" for Beauty and Health

I believe in the power of water for almost anything that effects our body. Water not only should be used to cleanse our outside but also our inside as well. GOD granted us an abundance of this miracle to life and it is my true belief that is IS the fountain to youth. As an Esthetician, I have pushed for my clients to drink water for their skin problems and as an added aid to their facial treatments. If you have been a client of mine then I have talked to you about consuming plenty of water. Alot of my clients tell me I should also be in the business of selling water HA I considered it .. believe me! =)

Alot of the dark circles and lines that form under the eye are signs of dehydration. Alot of skin issues such as "breaking out" are a sign of dehydration and lack of exfoliation. Skin that looks dull/sluggish and doesn't have the "spring back" or elasticity that normal healthy skin has is also a sign of dehydration. Even oily skin has a lot to do with dehydration because its the bodies way of taking care of the outter and inner layers for lack of moisture. So people run out and buy products to deplete the oil making their skin even more dry. When all they really need to do is drink water!

Your body tells you that you're thirsty but it doesn't know how to tell you that its water it needs. You have to show it! Your body will except anything liquid and interperate that as moisture it lacks. However, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol all have a drying effect on the skin and vital organs causing them to be more dehydrated.

So in conclusion: Make water a part of your daily routine to youth and health. Be good to your body and it will take care of you in return. Below is an article I ran across that talks about possible cures to many of our ailments. However, the Sanskrit name of the water treatment given in the article leads me to believe it has its source in Ayur-Veda, the traditional medical science of India. (The name given is "Usha (dawn or early morning) Paana (drink or in this case, water) Chikitsa (treatment).

Interestingly, my internet search also revealed a somewhat similar modern water therapy put forth by Dr. F. He has spent most of his scientific life researching the link between pain and disease and chronic dehydration.

Dr. Batmanghelidj discovered the healing powers of water 17 years ago when he was serving time as a political prisoner in an Iranian jail. He successfully treated 3,000 fellow prisoners suffering from stress induced peptic ulcer disease with the only medication he possessed water. This is when he understood for the first time in medical history that the body indicates its water shortage by producing pain.

Since his prison experience, he has focused his full time attention on dehydration produced health problems in the body. His discovery has helped hundreds of thousands of people suffering from a variety of pains and degenerative diseases regain their health.

Dr. Batmanghelidj has presented his findings at several international and world conferences, and they have been published and peer reviewed in a number of scientific journals. His findings are now available to the public in an easy to understand form in his two books, Your Body's Many Cries for Water, and How to Deal with Back Pain and Rheumatoid Joint Pain, and his video on back pain and audio tape of his lectures. Batmanghelidj

Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, 66, was trained at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London. His extensive clinical and scientific research shows how the body naturally generates different thirst signals, but that these can be mistaken for symptoms and signs of illness. Recognizing them for what they are, he says, means that we can enjoy better health and avoid costly mistakes.

"Since the water we drink provides for cell function and its volume requirements, the decrease in our daily water intake affects the efficiency of cell activity. (...) As a result, chronic dehydration causes symptoms that equal disease when the variety of emergency signals of dehydration are not understood." (p.14)

"The human body has a major problem with its normal water regulation, caused by a gradual loss of thirst sensation. This problem is confronted often enough in clinical practice that it does not need explanation. However, The Lancet editorial of 3 November 1984 and the 20 September 1984 article by Paddy Phillips [should] remove any doubt on the issue." (p.140)

"Humans seems to lose their thirst sensation and the critical perception of needing water. Not recognizing their need for water, they gradually become increasingly and chronically dehydrated with the progress of age. Further confusion lies in the idea that when we're thirsty, we can substitute tea, coffee, or alcohol containing beverages. This is a common error." (p.14)

"Not recognizing the thirst signals of the body will undoubtedly produce complicated problems in the present way of treatment of these conditions. It is all too easy to assume these signals are complications of a serious disease process and begin to treat signal producing dehydration with complicated procedures. Although water by itself will alleviate the condition, medications or invasive diagnostic procedures may be forced on the person. It is the responsibility of both patients and their doctors to be aware of the damage that chronic dehydration can cause in the human body." (p.18)

"These chronic pains include dyspeptic pain, rheumatoid arthritis pain, angina pain (heart pain on walking, or even at rest), migraine and hangover headaches, colitis pain and its associated constipation. The "view shift" dictates that all these pains should be treated with a regular adjustment to daily water intake. No less than two and a half quarts (two and one half litres) in 24 hours should be taken for a few days prior to the routine and regular use of analgesics or other pain relieving medications." (p.19)

"If the problem has persisted for many years, those who wish to test the pain relieving property of water should make sure their kidneys can make sufficient urine so that they do not retain too much water in the body. Urine output should be measured against water intake. With an increase in water intake, the urine output should also increase." (p.19)

How much water?
"Your body needs an absolute minimum of six 8 ounce glasses of water a day. [ 8 ounces is equivalent to app. 2,25 deciliter ] Alcohol, coffee, tea, and caffeine containing beverages don't count as water. The best times to drink water (clinically observed in peptic ulcer disease) are: one glass one half hour before taking food breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a similar amount two and one half hours after each meal. This is the very minimum amount of water your body needs. For the sake of not shortchanging your body, two more glasses of water should be taken around the heaviest meal or before going to bed. Thirst should be satisfied at all times. With increase in water intake, the thirst mechanism becomes more efficient. Your body might then ask you to drink more than the above minimum. Adjusting water intake to mealtimes prevents the blood from becoming concentrated as a result of food intake. When the blood becomes concentrated, it draws water from the cells around it. Water is the cheapest form of medicine to a dehydrated body. (...) There is more natural magic in a glass of water than any medication you are brainwashed to use for the treatment of the conditions

AMAZING SECRETS FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Cure # 1: Water prevents and cures heartburn. Heartburn is a signal of water shortage in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a major thirst signal of the human body. The use of antacids or tablet medications in the treatment of this pain does not correct dehydration, and the body continues to suffer as a result of its water shortage. Tragedy: Not recognizing heartburn as a sign of dehydration and treating it with antacids and pill medications will, in time, produce inflammation of the stomach, duodenum, hiatal hernia, ulceration, and eventually cancers in the gastrointestinal tract, including the liver and pancreas.

Cure # 2: Water prevents and cures arthritis. Rheumatoid Joint Pain Arthritis is a signal of water shortage in the painful joint. It can affect the young as well as the old. The use of painkillers does not cure the problem, but exposes the person to further damage from pain medications. Intake of water and small amounts of salt will cure this problem.

Cure # 3: Water prevents and cures back pain. Low Back Pain and Ankylosing Arthritis of the Spine are signs of water shortage in the spinal column and discs the water cushions that support the weight of the body. These conditions should be treated with increased water intake - not a commercial treatment, but a very effective one. Tragedy: Not recognizing arthritis and low back pain as signs of dehydration in the joint cavities and treating them with painkillers, manipulation, acupuncture, and eventually surgery will, in time, produce osteoarthritis when the cartilage cells in the joints have eventually all died. It will produce deformity of the spine. It will produce crippling deformities of the limbs. Pain medications have their own life threatening complications.

Cure # 4: Water prevents and cures angina. Heart Pain Angina is a sign of water shortage in the heart/lung axis. It should be treated with increased water intake until the patient is free of pain and independent of medications. Medical supervision is prudent. However, increased water intake is angina's cure.

Cure # 5: Water prevents and cures migraines. Migraine Headache is a sign of water need by the brain and the eyes. It will totally clear up by preventing dehydration from establishing in the body. This particular type of dehydration might eventually cause inflammation of the back of the eye and possibly loss of eye sight.

Cure #6: Water prevents and cures colitis. Colitis Pain is a signal of water shortage in the large gut. It is associated with constipation because the large intestine constricts to squeeze the last drop of water from the excrements thus the lack of water lubrication. Tragedy: Not recognizing colitis pain as a sign of dehydration will cause persistent constipation. Later in life, it will cause fecal impacting: it can cause diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, polyps, and appreciably increases the possibility of developing cancers of the colon and rectum.

Cure # 7: Water and salt prevents and cures asthma. Asthma, which also affects 12,000,000 children and kills several thousand of them every year, is a complication of dehydration in the body. It is caused by the drought management programs of the body. Free passage of air is obstructed so that water does not leave the body in the form of vapor, the winter steam. Increased water intake will prevent asthma attacks. Asthmatics need also to take more salt to break the mucus plugs in the lungs which obstruct the free flow of air in and out of the air sacs. Tragedy: Not recognizing asthma as the indicator of dehydration in the body of a growing child not only will sentence many thousands of children to die every year, but will permit irreversible genetic damage to establish in the remaining 12,000,000 asthmatic children.

Cure # 8: Water prevents and cures high blood pressure. Hypertension is a state of adaptation of the body to a generalized drought, when there is not enough water to fill all the blood vessels which diffuse water into vital cells. As part of the mechanism of reverse osmosis, when water from the serum is filtered and injected into important cells through minute holes in their membranes, extra pressure is needed for the "injection process." Just as we inject I.V. "water" in hospitals, so the body injects water into tens of trillions of cells all at the same time. Water and some salt intake will bring blood pressure back to normal! Tragedy: Not recognizing hypertension as one of the major indicators of dehydration in the human body, and treating it with diuretics that further dehydrate the body will, in time, cause blockage by cholesterol of the heart arteries and the arteries that go to the brain. It will cause heart attacks, small and/or massive strokes that paralyze. It will eventually cause kidney diseases. It will cause brain damage and neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease.

Cure # 9: Water prevents and cures early adult onset diabetes. Adult Onset Diabetes is another adaptive state to severe dehydration of the human body. To have adequate water in circulation and for the brain's priority water needs, the release of insulin is inhibited to prevent insulin from pushing water into all body cells. In diabetes only some cells get survival rations of water. Water and some salt will reverse adult onset diabetes in its early stages. Tragedy: Not recognizing adult onset diabetes as a complication of dehydration will, in time, cause massive damage to the blood vessels all over the body. It will cause eventual loss of the toes, feet and legs from gangrene. It will cause eye damage, even blindness.

Cure # 10: Water lowers blood cholesterol. High Cholesterol levels are an indicator of early drought management by the body. Cholesterol is a claylike material that is poured in the gaps of some cell membranes to safeguard them from losing their vital water content to the osmotically more powerful blood circulating in their vicinity. Cholesterol, apart from being used to manufacture nerve cell membranes and hormones, is also used as a "shield" against water taxation of other vital cells that would normally exchange water through their cell membranes.

Cure # 11: Water Cures Depression, Loss of Libido, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy. These conditions are caused by prolonged chronic dehydration. They will clear up once the body becomes well and regularly hydrated. In these conditions, exercising one's muscles should be part of the treatment program .

************************

So here's to your health.

Cheers!!!

Roxy's Skin Carehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11630208139488186592noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594694451148416992.post-17592434395808359092010-04-25T02:26:00.005-05:002010-04-25T02:52:16.597-05:00Sleep Support For Your Breasts

http://www.kushsupport.com/mm5/SFNT.html

"A few years ago, I began to notice the appearance of wrinkles in my cleavage area. No matter how much I used creams or exercised, the creases didn’t go away. So I began to research the cause and learned a lot. Because I sleep on my side – like millions of women do – I learned that gravity and the pressure of my breasts resting on top of each other while sleeping was the culprit. I consulted several physicians and found that there were no products available in the market that support a side-sleeping woman’s breasts, without the use of a bra, adhesives or restrictive clothing. My quest had begun.

The more that I learned, the more I was inspired to develop a product that would not only offer beauty benefits, but support the needs of side-sleeping women. While health care professionals recommend side-sleeping for proper spine alignment, a woman’s breasts often make sleeping in this position uncomfortable. And women everywhere can benefit from a good night’s sleep!

After researching, designing and carefully testing my product, I’m very pleased with the results – and I hope that you will be, too. You can find Squalene where you find other essential oils and herbs.

BELOW are some things I found on the net I found of interest and thought you might as well.

MAKE UP

Light Skin Undertones

Light skin has either pink or yellow undertones. To determine yours, follow this guide: If you have a lot of redness or an allover pink tint to your skin, you have pink undertones. If your skin is fairly even and you tan easily, you have yellow undertones.

Medium Skin Undertones

Woman with medium skin usually have olive undertones.

Dark Skin Undertones

Women with darker skin tones tend to either be a little golden in undertone or more reddish, so keep that in mind when selecting foundation shades.

Find Your Match

At the cosmetics counter, choose three shades of foundation that are as close to your natural skin tone as possible. Apply a stripe of each shade near your jaw line, and whichever blends the easiest into your skin is the best match.

Prime Your Canvas

Once you find the perfect shade of foundation, prep skin with a luminizing face primer. "It just makes the skin nice and smooth so when you apply the foundation, it'll just glide right on. Also if you use a dual active powder foundation, this will extend the wear time and coverage.

Application

For the most even application, use a foundation sponge to lightly feather foundation across your skin. This will ensure you get even coverage.

Tip:If you don't like an allover application, you can always spot-apply foundation only where you need it most.

Tip:Many women with darker skin tones tend to have areas of their faces that are a little darker than the rest. If you still have any dark areas after you apply foundation, just even them out by pushing the foundation sponge into the skin. This just adds a slightly heavier layer of foundation on the darker areas so your whole face looks even.

Conceal Flaws

Apply your concealer after your foundation. If you put it on before, your foundation will just wipe it off. "Pick up the concealer with a fine-tipped concealer brush .. remember to use the smallest amount possible. Gently dab onto any flaws.

Tip:To conceal a blemish .. mix foundation and concealer together on your wrist or the back of your hand.

Tip, continued:To finish, lightly layer the mixture directly onto the blemish with a concealer brush until it's completely covered, then gently tap it with your finger to blend slightly and make the blemish disappear.

Undereye Concealer

Gently dab concealer to camouflage any darkness under eyes using your ring finger, which ensures you apply feather-light pressure.

Final Step

Applying powder on top of a liquid foundation gets rid of any shine and sets your foundation to last all day long. Use a fluffy brush to lightly dust powder across your face .. this helps set the look without smudging your makeup.

Tip:Women who have oily skin should take note: You don't want to powder off and on all day because this will make your foundation heavy looking and uneven. Instead, if you see a little shine, use blotting papers to absorb the excess oil.

**************************************************************************

Home Hair Care~ Try using hand cream to seal split ends. was deemed to be misleading to the consumer.
Misleading statements
J&J’s advert for the RoC CompleteLift face cream claimed the product provides ‘Measurable lift in just 8 weeks’.

This statement was accompanied by a footnote stating that ‘CompleteLift has been developed to make skin feel firmer and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It has not been proven to have a physical lift effect.’
According to J&J, these two apparently contradictory statements were included in order to highlight the temporary, rather than permanent, lifting effect provided by the product.
However, the ASA disagreed, deciding that readers may misinterpret the statements and be confused by the seemingly opposing sentiments.
Unsubstantiated claims

In addition, the agency decided that the claims made by the US-based giant about the efficacy of the product could not be substantiated.
The advert stated that the product was ‘clinically proven to work in just 8 weeks of use’, accompanied by a footnote referencing a clinical study.
At the request of the ASA, the company submitted details of the clinical study, which the ASA gave to an expert to consider.

J&J’s clinical study was found to be lacking on a number of counts, according to the ASA, including a lack of information regarding the methodology.
For this reason the agency concluded that the advertisement’s claims could not be substantiated and stated that the advert must not appear again in its current form.
Skin creams are the worst offenders amongst the cosmetic products that breach the ASA’s code, according to figures released by the body earlier this summer.

Out of a 455 beauty adverts that were examined by the ASA last year, overall compliance with the code was 93 per cent compared to only 81 per cent for skin formulations.
The agency described this as ‘somewhat disappointing’ however it said the figures were not so bad as to imply that the industry was not working responsibly.
Roxy's Skin Carehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11630208139488186592noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594694451148416992.post-78262925292386849822009-06-23T01:37:00.002-05:002009-06-23T02:11:19.525-05:00NEWS ~ Herbal Compound Could Reduce Under Eye Bags 06/22/09
Brazilian herbal compound could reduce under eye bags, says study

By Katie Bird, 04-Jun-2009
Related topics: Formulation & Science, Skin Care

A mixture of herbs including Brazilian ginseng and white lily could improve dark circles and under eye puffiness, according to researchers in Brazil.
Although the exact mechanism behind the discoloration of the fragile skin is unknown, the study (in this month’s Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology) claims it is related to bad blood circulation in the under eye area.

The scientists investigated herbal compound PPLAC, manufactured by Brazilian personal care ingredients supplier Chemyunion Quimica. However, 17 said they would be willing to undergo the treatment again.
The authors conclude that for patients who have been prescribed a course of fluorouracil for the treatment of actinic keratoses, the positive anti-aging side effects might help motivate them to stick to the rigorous treatment.

In addition they conclude that: “Undoubtedly, there will be patients who desire a therapy such as topical fluorouracil of cosmetic purposes given the relatively low cost of this therapy compared with ablative laser resurfacing.”

Furthermore, the authors suggest that other topical agents such as diclofenac gel or imiquimod that have similar skin injuring properties in photodamaged skin may lead to similar improvements.Roxy's Skin Carehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11630208139488186592noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594694451148416992.post-57956889633451799082009-06-10T11:24:00.004-05:002009-06-16T23:24:56.802-05:00Introducing Myself 6/10/09

Welcome to my *NEW* Skin Care home! After loosing all the work I put into aol journal for skin care, it has taken some time and thought of retyping so much once again. But as passion would have it, how in the world could I refuse myself and my friends.
Truth is, I absolutely adore my career as an Esthetician! It is very true what they say about getting up in the morning with happiness to work! Although I never really looked at it much like "work".

Skin Care has always been a deep interest of mine since the time I was young. However, when I was young there was no such career as "Esthetician". In fact, there were very few Dermatologists! If you had a skin problem, you mostly went to your family Doctor. Also back in the day (I have to lol on that) the solutions for acne or problematic skin did not work well and were very costly. Since I was a teen with acne, this was highly troublesome. I can remember my face looking as if it had a rash. Thankfully I did not have vulgaric acne except a couple that I did get on my back. Gosh those hurt! So I always felt compassion for those that had this form of acne on their face. Vulgaric acne is the condition that form scars and leave pitting on the surface of the skin.

My parents as most parents did, took me to see our Doctor. He said, it was harmonal changes and I would eventually grow out of it once they settled. He gave me prescriptions at a high cost that did not work and I remember this so vividly because I was just crushed my skin was getting no better. My father was a very successful Barber in our community. So he sat me down one day and began discussing what he learned in Barber school about skin and his experiences with his clients. Which really was alot of help for me to understand more of what was happening to my own skin.

My dad talked to me about skin oil, how dirt clings to it and clogs the pores causing eruptions. How hot compresses would liquify and make extracting easier without hurting the skins surface. We discussed cleanliness and how important it is to not only prevent infection when extracting but clogging of pores as well. Then we discussed makeup usage and how that had a huge impact on those same clogs.

Being a teenage girl and very into makeup. I tried to figure out how I could use makeup and still keep my skin clean. So I began a daily ritual of washing my face in the morning, at school after lunch, when I got home from school and right before I went to bed. My skin regime was wash wash wash!!! Then to my surprise Cover Girl came out with a product called Cover Girl 1, 2 and 3. The numbers stood for skin color type. Their product was not makeup, it was medication for acne skin. But it was tinted medication and could be worn as makeup. Halaluja!!! It was as if I stuck a gold mine!! I kept with my ritual of washing faithfully and each time I would re-apply my new "makeup" treatment! Wasn't too long, it seems less than 6 months. My problem with acne was solved! I could not have been more thankful as I was then! I always attributed my new found skin to my daddy and Cover Girl!

I have not seen this Cover Girl makeup since my teen yrs and that is such a shame! I have thought about writing to them as an Esthetician and giving them my testimonial to their long lost product but just haven't done it yet. Maybe I will here soon because they really do need to bring that back! What with the environmental problems we all face with our skin these days. I feel its a product that needs to be re-introduced especially to teens!! Our teen yrs are so important to our confidence but you know, confidence is something adults need as well! There is nothing like being complimented on having beautiful skin for the very first time! Every single one of us deserve this and CAN ACHIEVE this goal with some time and effort along with good advice.

I will be posting not only on skincare but also on full body care. Since full body care is all a part of feeling beautiful it also relaxes the facial muscles by relieving stress and tension. By doing this we fight lines and wrinkles. My best friend is a Licensed Nail tech so I will be gathering good info from her to share with you. Some of my best memories at work before striking out on my own, was working in the same day spa. It was one of the more "elite" day spas in our area.
I have worked in a few of them along the way but that one I still miss. I tried working for two different Drs. but it was just not the same for me. One Dr. was a Dermatologist and the other was a Cosmetic Surgeon. Neither medical field gave me as much joy. However, I truly believe if I could of figured out what I wanted to do long long ago. I probably would have chosen Dermatology for a career.

Which brings me to my intro conclusion as to why I am opening this blog! I want to help YOU! I will be sharing my knowlege and experiences with you here along with products that I know work! I will never guide you somewhere that lead you to feeling less satisfied with results. However, I cannot do it alone! YOU have to help me help you!! You have to be just as diligent with your skin care regime as I was when I was a teen! I can honestly promise you a day when someone says "your skin is so pretty, what do you use?" PROMISE YOU!!! How can I do this?? I can do this because I KNOW of skin care products that actually WORK!!

So stay with me and ask all the questions you want or need to!
